What to attach
- Offer / placement notice
- Statement of the basis for appeal (sibling priority, proximity, IEP placement, hardship)
- IEP / 504 plan if applicable
- Proof of address (if priority zone is in dispute)
Pro tips
- Sibling priority and zoned/proximity priorities are the two most-frequently-overlooked grounds — verify your child was matched correctly under the priority you claim.
- For specialized program appeals (G&T, Selective HS), document procedural irregularities (testing accommodations not honored, rubric misapplied).
- After exhausting DOE review, NY Education Law § 310 lets you appeal to the Commissioner of Education within 30 days.
